Probably a completely different engine. If the engine has a standard SAE numbered bellhousing then there is a chance you could get the adaptors needed to easily put this thing together. But look at the data plate on the engine. Google the info and see what you can find on it. Being an industeral non-turbo diesel I doubt it has much power. Guessing HP range. That just won't be enough. Full throttle, it either solves the problem or ends the suspense.

I think having an adapter made would be cost prohibitive A guy at our work is having one made now from a Hemi to a 4r I think he said it would be He also put a 4 in a nassion and it got over 40 MPG but it was a lot of work front end needed a lot of work on both trucks. I found them to be slow but I was in my 40's and he was in his late 60's he liked.

Will cost you a good deal to make it work gears and all good luck and have fun. My brother had a 76 High-boy with a 4 cyl perkins 4spd out of a dump truck in it. Divorced transfer case made it easy. Not real familiar with that one - and that might be the bad part. I'm not sure of parts availability or service capabilities as you're traveling. Might be more common than I thought, though - worth looking into.

Perkins makes a ton of engines and some of their smaller stuff is common on reefer trailers that CANNOT fail so I'm guessing reliability ought to be pretty good but the operative word is "guessing". Comment Post Cancel. Brian Lohnes. I have never heard of a Perkins 6. That is pretty wild. The good thing is that these engines are legendary for their toughness and mule like ability. Perkins literally made a million of these things. In the USA, they were not popular in trucks or on the road vehicles because Perkins had built an engine previously called the R6 which was a total junkpile and disaster.

The 6. You won't be going anywhere quickly with one of those as you're looking at about hp, but it will probably still be making that same hp in 50 years from now. Long story short, they're like a loyal old dog. You won't get a lot of excitement out of 'em but reliable companionship has lots of benefits.

They were actually pretty popular here for pickups before the factories came out with diesels.

Good luck finding someone to do that today. Also as Brian said low power and expensive parts. There was a company in California that did these swaps in the s in place of the 6.

It does not have the power of a modern diesel. But it was way better than diesels of the time. Just make sure it has a Bosch inline pump.
