Although the Henry VI trilogy may not have been written in chronological order, the three plays are often grouped together with Richard III to form a tetralogy covering the entire Wars of the Roses saga, from the death of Henry V in to the rise to power of Henry VII in It was the success of this sequence of plays that firmly established Shakespeare's reputation as a playwright.
Henry VI, Part 3 features the longest soliloquy in all of Shakespeare 3. Upon reaching the parliamentary chambers in London, York seats himself in the throne, and a confrontation ensues between his supporters and Henry's.
Threatened with violence by Warwick, who has brought part of his army with him, the King reaches an agreement with York which will allow him to remain king until his death, at which time the throne will permanently pass to the House of York and its descendants. Disgusted with this decision, which would disinherit the King's son, Prince Edward, the King's supporters, led by his wife, Margaret, abandon him, and Margaret declares war on the Yorkists, supported by Clifford, who is determined to exact revenge for the death of his father at the hands of York during the battle of St Albans.
Margaret attacks York's castle at Wakefieldand the Yorkists lose the ensuing battle During the conflict, Clifford murders York's twelve-year-old son, Rutland. Margaret and Clifford then capture and taunt York himself; forcing him to stand on a molehill, they give him a handkerchief covered with Rutland's blood to wipe his brow, and place a paper crown on his head, before stabbing him to death.
After the battle, as Edward and Richard lament York's death, Warwick brings news that his own army has been defeated by Margaret's at the Second Battle of St Albansand the King has returned to London, where, under pressure from Margaret, he has revoked his agreement with York. However, George Plantagenet, Richard and Edward's brother, has vowed to join their cause, having been encouraged to do so by his sister, the Duchess of Burgundy. Additionally, Warwick has been joined in the conflict by his own younger brother, Montague.
The Yorkists regroup, and at the Battle of TowtonClifford is killed and the Yorkists are victorious. During the battle, Henry sits on a molehill and laments his problems. He observes a father who has killed his son, and a son who has killed his father, representing the horrors of the civil war. Following his victory, Edward is proclaimed king and the House of York is established on the English throne. George is proclaimed Duke of Clarence and Richard, Duke of Gloucesteralthough he complains to Edward that this is an ominous dukedom.
King Edward and George then leave the court, and Richard reveals to the audience his ambition to rise to power and take the throne from his brother, although as yet he is unsure how to go about it. After Towton, Warwick goes to France to secure for Edward the hand of Louis XI's sister-in-law, Lady Bona, thus ensuring peace between the two nations by uniting in marriage their two monarchies. Warwick arrives at the French court to find that Margaret, Prince Edward and the Earl of Oxford have come to Louis to seek his aid in the conflict in England.
Just as Louis is about to agree to supply Margaret with troops, Warwick intervenes, and convinces Louis that it is in his interests to support Edward and approve the marriage. Back in England, however, the recently widowed Lady Grey Elizabeth Woodville has come to King Edward requesting her late husband's lands be returned to her.
Edward is captivated by her beauty and promises to return her husband's lands to her if she becomes his mistress, but Lady Grey refuses. The two exchange sexually-charged banter, but Lady Grey continues to refuse Edward on the grounds of preserving her honor.
Edward declares that, besides being beautiful, she is also clever and virtuous, and decides to marry her against the advice of both George and Richard. Upon hearing of this, Warwick, feeling he has been made to look a fool despite service to the House of York, denounces Edward, and switches allegiance to the Lancastrians, promising his daughter Anne's hand in marriage to Prince Edward as a sign of his loyalty. Shortly thereafter, George and Montague also defect to the Lancastrians.
Warwick then invades England with French troops, and Edward is taken prisoner and conveyed to Warwick's brother, the Archbishop of Yorkwhile heavily pregnant Lady Grey now Queen Elizabeth flees to sanctuary. Henry, having been restored to the throne, appoints Warwick and George as his Lords Protector.
News of the escape reaches Henry's court, and the young Earl of Richmond is sent into exile in Brittany for safety. Richmond is a descendant of John of Gauntuncle of Richard II and son of Edward IIIand therefore a potential Lancastrian heir should anything happen to Henry and his son; hence the need to protect him. Edward reorganises his forces and confronts Warwick's army. Before the walls of Coventry, George betrays Warwick, and rejoins the Yorkists.
This throws Warwick's forces into disarray. The Yorkists achieve a decisive victory at the Battle of Barnetduring which both Warwick and Montague are killed. Meanwhile, Edward's forces have captured Henry and sent him to the Tower of London.
Oxford and the Duke of Somerset now assume command of the Lancastrian forces, and join a second battalion newly arrived from France led by Margaret and Prince Edward.
Somerset is sentenced to death, Oxford to life imprisonment, Margaret is banished, and Prince Edward is stabbed to death by the three Plantagenet brothers, who fly into a rage after he refuses to recognise the House of York as the legitimate royal family. At this point, Richard goes to London to kill Henry.Andrea Zanni Medialibrary Online Italy. Scenari di educazione ai media con un progetto territoriale. From the Public Library to the Multimedia Public Library: perspectives of education to the media culture with a territorial project.
The first part of this Doctorial Dissertation, contained in the first chapter, aims basically at contextualizing the object of the research.
This analysis has the purpose of underlying the contemporary necessity for a transformation, also in our country, of the Public Library in Multimedia Public Library, according to the latest social requirements for communication technology update, which means also cultural and educational update. This hoped for change, should not be a mere change of name, but the possibility of a real enrichment of culture and communication services. In Italy we are far from accomplishing this changing, which is not true for other so called developed countries.
In the first place because the French and the Italian systems were quite similar in their organisational features and typology, before the radical modernisation of the Public Library System in France, accomplished between the end of the '70 and the beginning of the '80 in the last century, following the project of the Multimedia Public Library.
In the second place because, beginning from a new name to end with the achievement of concrete results, the "French experience" is an innovative national project carried out homogeneously, which could be envisaged as a model, as a cultural and educational strategy to be followed also in Italy.
In the context of this research, the enrichment of these services has to be seen mainly as an enlargement of the possibility of fruition of audiovisual and interactive media on and off-line, and as the completion of educational requirements.
BiblioTime - La Giornata della Memoria
All this aims at developing people's technical know-how and multimedia skills, in order to allow them to be able to "read" in full awareness, to be able to connect oneself and to live in the contemporary democratic society.
To become accustomed to the technological tools and to the multimedia languages is essential to concretely test these skills, which are the starting step to multimedia communication. The object of this research is therefore at first analysed from a "problem solving" point of view, in different type of social contexts: institutional, cultural, operational and statistic.
The devising of these contexts aims at defining key words as "media", "multimedia", and "multimedia public library" that will be used frequently in the treatise. It has moreover the purpose of viewing the main topic, that is the transformation of the Library in Multimedia Public Library, in its possibilities of cultural and educational development, with the help of the meagre and often too specialised cultural debate on this particular subject.
The second part of the Dissertation, contained in the second chapter, is meant to be the real core of this research. Here is a deep historical and critical analysis of the theoretical researches and of the practical outcomes related to the concept of Multimedia Library developed in Italy, or in some ways connected to the national territory.
This analysis is being carried out thanks to the researches and experimentation of the late Seventies developed in connection and inside the University of Padua Audiovisual Laboratory, Professorship of methodology and didactics of audiovisual media, Faculty of Education.
On the ground of contemporary experiences the accomplishment of the national project named "Mediateca " has been analysed, together with the debate that aroused from it in the recent congress "Public libraries: the conversation of media" in May The treatise analyses the different experiences through a wide and deep bibliographical and geographical research, following as much as possible a chronological sequence, and arriving till to-day in the investigation of theories, projects, experimentations and outcomes.
Seen as a whole, the results of this research can draw the outline of a new perspective on the idea of Multimedia Library: the suggestions and information about methods, theories and fulfilments, it gives could form the platform for the concrete accomplishment of the transformation of the traditional public libraries in multimedia public libraries.
The third part of the Dissertation is a brief but complete project for the creation of a real multimedia library. The project is located in Padua, in order to be easily applied to the concrete transformation of the Padua Municipal Public Library in a Multimedia Public Library, situated in the restored complex of the former Court of Justice.
My role as the President of the 4th South - East District of Padua, a task I undertook a few years ago, gave me the possibility to acquire a specific expertise on this matter, being also the representative of the districts in the Culture Commission of the Municipality of Padua, and the person in charge for the cultural activities for the political party of the former City Councillor for Culture in the city of Padua, and having above all the assignment of evaluating and investigating the projects of fulfilment of this cultural transformation.
This project is aware of the concrete, many-sided problems and expectations of the city administration, considered in the whole of its different politicians, managers and professionals, and tries to fulfil them as much as possible, having always in mind the key idea of the Public Multimedia Library.
This is why the project hypothesis is founded on the results obtained from the deep scientific analysis carried out in the second chapter of the Dissertation. A survey, answered in the form of a questionnaire addressed to the municipal employees of the city public library system, is also part of the project.Account Options Sign in. Top charts. Church, Church Metrics is the leading free tool for tracking data.It has been observed that wurtzite II—VI semiconducting nanobelts transform into single-crystal, periodically branched nanostructures upon heating. The mechanism of this novel transformation has been elucidated by heating II—VI nanobelts in an environmental transmission electron microscope ETEM in oxidizing, reducing and inert atmospheres while observing their structural changes with high spatial resolution.
The interplay of surface reconstruction of high-energy surfaces of the wurtzite phase and environment-dependent anisotropic chemical etching of certain crystal surfaces in the branching mechanism of nanobelts has been observed. Understanding of structural and chemical transformations of materials via in situ microscopy techniques and their role in designing new nanostructured materials is discussed.
